About the Society

The German Society for Proteome Research (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Proteomforschung e. V., DGPF) was founded on November 22, 2001 in the Max-Planck-Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried/Munich. The founding members (ca. 100 persons) come from academia and from 3 groups of companies in the Life Science area: small and medium Biotech-start ups, established providers of technologies for biochemical analysis and large companies of the pharmaceutical industry.

The DGPF is a platform for bringing proteomics activities in Germany at different locations and within the frame of different programs below one roof and further for promoting proteome research by nationally and internationally harmonized initiatives. Such a general coordination will focus and optimize utilization of the national resources for proteome research in order to gain a leading position in the ongoing global competition.

Cooperation between science and economy is part of the concept of the DGPF. This is ideal for technology transfer and will therefore directly strengthen the competitiveness of the German business place on an international scale.
